Beware of domain registration scams!
Domain privacy is highly recommended. With your domain contact information being public, you are at the mercy of constant scammers and marketers who will continually try to trick you into services or signups that are, at best, of little or no benefit to you. Worst case is they may cause you to lose your domain.
This an actual email I received. (I have blurred the domain name and add the text watermark identifying it as an email scam.). The rest is as I received it.
Most notable are:
- The link to make a payment is right on the email (always be suspicious of this).
- The domain expiration is not even the correct date (despite the real date being a public DNS record).
- The from email is from a domain attached to a dentist somewhere (likely the dentist’s site was hacked to be used to send these scam emails).
